Family Support Workers

We employ a dedicated team of Family Support Workers. They are here to support parents and carers whilst their child is at Oakfield Short Stay School. Prior to a child starting at our school, parents and carers will have had at least one induction meeting.  They will be given the name of their link Family Support Worker who will work closely with the family and will explain how the school will support your child.

Hi, my name is Claire Smith and I bring over 12 years of expertise in Education and Family Support. I have successfully worked in mainstream settings, providing specific support for children in specialist schools and directly assisting their families in their home. Most recently, my role was as an Intensive Key Worker at Family Help, where I have effectively supported children and families with a wide range of complex needs and helping them confront and overcome their historical traumas. Whilst at Family Help, I supported families with various services to facilitate their child's reintegration into school and ensure each child receives the best possible support. I have guided numerous families through the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) application process and annual reviews. I am committed to empowering your child and your family to regain confidence in education by actively listening to your concerns and coordinating tailored support packages.

As Senior Family Support, my role is to lead you through the induction process and ensure both you and your child are fully integrated into the Oakfield community. This will involve organising school visits, active participation in family events and meaningful engagement with our parent forum.

Throughout your child's journey at Oakfield, I will conduct regular home visits and offer support for health appointments and meetings, and will signpost you with the appropriate support agencies that can further assist you and your family and ensure a seamless transition for your child to their future school after their time at Oakfield. Together, we will create a strong foundation for your child's success.
