Oakfield Short Stay SchoolLearn, believe, enjoy and achieve

Willow and Cherry class is now called Pine class.

We have made a fantastic start to our topic learning this term. Our theme is Ancient Greece. We have planned lots of exciting learning opportunities to explore and understand who the Ancient Greeks were. We will be learning about daily life and making comparisons between clothing, money, buildings, transport and culture. We will develop our Design Technology skills to build models of Ancient Greek buildings working in 3D. We will also be learning about Greek mythology through our English sessions and understand why this was important to the Greeks back then. In Art we will create Ancient Greek pottery and design pictures on them to tell stories just like they did back then. We will also be learning about the origins of the Ancient Greek Olympics. We will make comparisons and identify similarities and differences between now and then. We aim to hold our very own Oakfield Olympics to conclude the topic!

The pupils are all doing 'Read, Write, inc. or Fresh Start. This includes phonics, handwriting, reading and writing.

In maths, pupils will be working using 'White Rose' and Abacus resources.

During the autumn term all of our pupils studied a brilliant unit on superheroes, the next unit of work was Richard III to Henry VIII.

During the spring term pupils will be starting with a week's unit on 'Animal Science' (including a trip to Desford's Tropical Birdland). This will lead into three weeks of 'Gory Greek Myths', then Chinese New Year and Science Week.
