Family Support Workers

We employ a dedicated team of Family Support Workers. They are here to support parents and carers whilst their child is at Oakfield Short Stay School. Prior to a child starting at our school, parents and carers will have had at least one induction meeting.  They will be given the name of their link Family Support Worker who will work closely with the family and will explain how the school will support your child.

My name is Jane Sims, I have worked at Oakfield for 11 years, during which time many changes for education, and supporting young people and their families have been made.

As a mother and grandmother I have experienced first-hand the many joys and challenges that parenting brings!

As part of the Oakfield team, my role is to help guide you through the induction process, and ensure that you and your child are welcomed into the Oakfield community. This will be through school visits, involvement with family events and our parent forum.

During your child’s journey through Oakfield there will be regular home visits, and support with attending health appointments, and meetings, including signposting to and/or liaising with other agencies of support to you and your family.

Support will be provided with paperwork (including Education & Health Care plans), and arrangements to bring about a positive transition to your child’s future school, beyond their time at Oakfield.
