Oakfield Short Stay SchoolLearn, believe, enjoy and achieve

Cedar class block has now become Maple class.

Wow! What a fantastic end to 2018 we had in Maple class. Last term, we thoroughly enjoyed studying the book Wonder by R. J. Palacio. We were able to empathise with the main characters, particularly ‘Auggie’ who was born with Treacher- Collins Syndrome. We also were able to complete diary entries in the roles of the characters, as well as exploring how music can be used as a form of symbolism and imply how someone is feeling about the world. In maths we have continued to develop our fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills. And let’s not forget our awesome day out at the Space Centre where we saw a fantastic presentation about stars in the night sky in their planetarium. Finally, we finished the term on another high when we went to see the Pantomime Snow White and the Seven Vertically Challenged Men - Commiserations to Craig who did apply for one of the roles, but was unsuccessful this time. Everyone in Maple class is sad to see the amazing Tim move on to ventures new as he has done so much for us all, we wish him all the best and good luck in his new school.

The pupils are all doing 'Read, Write, inc. or Fresh Start. This includes phonics, handwriting, reading and writing.

In maths, pupils will be working using 'White Rose' and Abacus resources.

During the autumn term all of our pupils studied a brilliant unit on superheroes, the next unit of work was Richard III to Henry VIII.

During the spring term pupils will be starting with a week's unit on 'Animal Science' (including a trip to Desford's Tropical Birdland). This will lead into three weeks of 'Gory Greek Myths', then Chinese New Year and Science Week.
