Oakfield Short Stay SchoolLearn, believe, enjoy and achieve

Cedar class block has now become Maple class.

Last term we have enjoyed learning about Hindu culture especially during Diwali time. Particular highlights have been creating beautiful mehndi patterns on our hands, designing and making diva lamps using salt dough, as well as traditional Diwali artwork using glass paints and coloured rice for Rangoli designs. Also we enjoyed making a female Guy Fawkes for our bonfire; in fact, she was so attractive Craig even proposed to her on one knee in assembly! The romance didn’t end well though! Currently we are learning about the size and distance between the planets in our solar system. We have even made papier Mache scaled replicas of the planets. Did you know that if the earth was the size of a small marble, our solar system would be 7 miles wide!

The pupils are all doing 'Read, Write, inc. or Fresh Start. This includes phonics, handwriting, reading and writing.

In maths, pupils will be working using 'White Rose' and Abacus resources.

During the autumn term all of our pupils studied a brilliant unit on superheroes, the next unit of work was Richard III to Henry VIII.

During the spring term pupils will be starting with a week's unit on 'Animal Science' (including a trip to Desford's Tropical Birdland). This will lead into three weeks of 'Gory Greek Myths', then Chinese New Year and Science Week.
